Clocked stockings, such as our Cotton Clocked Stockings, were worn by commoner and gentry. This design in green with yellow clock, closely resembles a pair in the collection of the MET. Another in the same colorway is in the collection. Having examined a number of stockings in the course of our research, one notable example was a piece of blue woolen stocking clocked with bright pink, which was left as a token for a foundling in London.
